Parents

January 2, 2017

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 requires that parents or guardians who have children attending a Title I school be notified of how well their school is preparing its students for college and/or a career, as well as the school’s designation status under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver.

Under the 2015 renewal of Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools are designated as Reward, Priority, Focus, or Alert schools.  The Waiver also allows the use of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) as the comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia, providing a score between 0-100 for each school - measuring how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career.

Jackson Elementary overall CCRPI score is 69. More details about the score can be found at http://ccrpi.gadoe.org.

I am very proud to tell you that Jackson Elementary School has not been given a school designation this year. We were on the Focus School list for three years and have now came off of the list. We will continue to provide a quality education to all of our students.

2015-2016 was the second year our 3rd-5th grade students were assessed using the state adopted Georgia Milestone Assessment (GMAS). Overall, 68.4% third, fourth, and fifth grade students scored at Developing or above (level 2 or higher) in ELA. 71.2% of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students scored at Developing or above (level 2 or higher) in Math. 67.5% of third fourth, and fifth grade students scored at Developing or above (level 2 or higher) in Science. Lastly, 74.5% of third, fourth, and fifth grade students scored at Developing or above (level 2 or higher) in Social Studies. Our overall passing percentages increased by at least 10% in every subject area. We are proud of how much our students have progressed at Jackson, however we are working hard to improve even more.

At Jackson Elementary, we take pride in the teaching we provide for our children. Our teachers and staff members work very hard to meet the needs of all students to ensure they achieve at their highest potential.

An important part of Jackson’s success is parent participation and support in developing activities to improve student achievement.  We hope that you will become involved in our school improvement work as we continue to monitor student achievement and set high expectations.  If you are interested in participating in the development of our school improvement plans, being a part of our family engagement team, or have questions about how you can better help your child in school, please contact Dr. Donna Jackson, Principal at 678 610 4401 or donna.jackson@clayton.k12.ga.us.

Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s education.

 Sincerely,

 Dr. Donna Jackson

Principal
